SEASIDE, Monterey County — October 27, 2026. A worldwide sporting event delivered a small, tangible benefit to Seaside’s youth programs. In a September 4 press release, the city reported it had distributed 200 soccer balls to local schools, soccer clubs and community organizations, through an initiative connected with FIFA and the U.S. Conference of Mayors.
Where the equipment went
The official release describes categories of local recipients rather than a public household giveaway or a distribution to every student. It says the equipment was intended to encourage active recreation and community participation during the 2026 World Cup year. The press release does not list a current application round, so residents should not assume they can claim free balls directly at City Hall.
Why a small grant-in-kind matters
Soccer can serve as a relatively low-cost entry point to organized physical activity, especially when schools and neighborhood organizations share equipment. Donations of equipment are useful, but should not be described as a cash grant, a new playing field or a permanent commitment to finance sports facilities.
Parents interested in the city’s upcoming recreation opportunities can also review the separate 2027 youth basketball registration.

Editor’s note: September’s 200 donated balls are a completed reported distribution, not an ongoing public giveaway.
