SEASIDE, Calif. — A Día de los Muertos gathering at Seaside’s Oldemeyer Center will invite community members to help assemble an ofrenda, a traditional display honoring loved ones who have died.
Organized by the Peninsula Parents Coalition, the community activity is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2026, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Oldemeyer Center on Hilby Avenue, according to the Monterey Bay Parent events calendar.
What is planned?
The community event is focused on helping arrange an ofrenda. Organizers previously held an arts-and-crafts gathering on October 23 for items including papel picado and painted picture frames.
The November 1 gathering is the chance to help put the display together. Residents may wish to bring a photograph of someone they want to remember, but should confirm current instructions with the organizer before arriving.
A celebration of memory
Día de los Muertos is observed in many Mexican and Mexican American families as a time to remember the lives of relatives and friends. Public altars may include flowers, photographs, art and symbolic objects selected by participants.
Community events such as this one can also introduce children to the tradition through respectful participation and conversation about family history.
